Happy City Charrette

The Ecopolitan Residential and Commercial Development Project (Ecopolitan) is taking shape on a greenfield site in Punawale, a district of Pune, India. The project’s developer, Ahura Builders, aspires to build a community that will offer exceptional lifestyle benefits to its 8,000 residents. Ahura reached out to Happy City for specific recommendations on how to improve the health and happiness performance of the development.

Working with collaborators MODUS, Happy City convened a charrette process to analyse context and site plans through the happiness lens. We found that many features of the existing site plan would be strong contributors to wellbeing. However there was room for improvement in architecture and public realm design, as well as at the master plan level. Our team produced ten happiness-centered design strategies, which included practical recommendations to boost connectivity, social opportunities and sense of place, as well as real and perceived levels of security. Ahura builders is currently implementing these recommendations. We believe the strategies will help Ahura Builders create value for the business while improving health and happiness for residents and the wider community.
